Allen: I cast stars by accident
19/03/2005 - 14:59:59Woody Allen is modest about his ability to attract big name stars to his movies - insisting they only work with him between bigger projects.
The auteur is famous for convincing Hollywood's leading stars to accept small pay cheques to appear in his low budget films, but he rejects the assumption everyone in Tinseltown is desperate to work with him.
He says: "They only work with me if they're between desirable jobs. If I call an actor or actress and a Stephen Speilberg or Martin Scorsese is calling them and are offering them substantial money, they have no interest in me at all.
"However, if they just finished a picture, they have earned their 10 million dollar salary, they have nothing to do till August, I call them in June and they like the part, they say why not?"
