Boro's injury problems persist

18/03/2005 - 12:53:10
Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren could be without 10 first-team players for the Riverside visit of Southampton in the Barclays Premiership on Sunday.

Tony McMahon joined Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Mark Viduka, Michael Reiziger, Ray Parlour, Ugo Ehiogu, Gaizka Mendieta, George Boateng, Malcolm Christie and James Morrison on the sidelines after limping out of last night’s UEFA Cup defeat to Sporting Lisbon with a knee injury.

It means McClaren will again have to dip into his pool of youngsters after 18-year-old David Wheater and 17-year-old Adam Johnson made their debuts in Lisbon.

Provisional squad: Schwarzer, Riggott, Southgate, Queudrue, Parnaby, Doriva, Zenden, Downing, Job, Nemeth, Jones, Cooper, Graham, Johnson, Wheater, Taylor, Kennedy.
