McCartneys express renewed hope after Bush talks
The family of murdered Belfast man Robert McCartney has expressed renewed hope in their campaign for justice after their meeting US President George W Bush yesterday.
Mr Bush expressed his unqualified support for their campaign during the annual St Patrick's Day reception at the White House in Washington.
Mr McCartney's sisters and fiancee presented the US President with a dossier outling the facts surrouding the murder of the 33-year-old father-of-two, which was allegedly carried out by senior IRA members.
The killers allegedly used their IRA connections to intimidate witnesses and destroy forensic evidence, including CCTV tapes.
The McCartneys have accused Sinn Féin and the IRA of initially trying to cover up the matter and of only acting belatedly to address the family's concerns once the public outcry became deafening.
Speaking in Washington yesterday, Catherine McCartney said: "Our objective is very specific and that is to get the men who murdered Robert on Sunday the 30th of January into a court.
"We want the witnesses who were there that night to come forward and tell all they know about what happened that night so that the police can then gather the necessary evidence to be able to charge these people."
