Small firms group reiterates call for wage moderation
18/03/2005 - 08:06:15The Small Firms Association has reiterated its calls for wage moderation, claiming pay rises were causing significant job losses, particularly in the manufacturing sector.
In its latest quarterly economic statement, the association said it expected employment to increase by less than 2% this year and said wage inflation was one the reasons for the low figure.
The SFA said average Irish wages increased by 5.5% last year, compared to a European average of just over 2%, and this was the seventh consecutive year when the Irish figure had exceeded the European one.
