Liverpool found themselves in a stranglehold created by Blackburn’s organisation and defiance as they were held to a goalless first half at Anfield.
Rovers unashamedly strung a wall of defenders across their half and Liverpool toiled unsuccessfully to break them down.
Barely a chance was created by either side in the opening 45 minutes and Blackburn were by far the happier at the break.
