Longford Town's Mathews defiant
16/03/2005 - 11:58:11Longford Town manager Alan Mathews remains convinced that his side can reach the Setanta Cup final despite last night’s 2-1 defeat by Glentoran.
Mathews believes that Town paid for their lack of match practice – last night’s match was their first competitive match in four months – while Glentoran are midway through their season though he believes his side will be up to speed the next time they meet.
“By the time we played in Longford, we will have four league games under our belt. We should certainly be a match for them,” he said.
“We didn’t do enough against Glentoran to win the match. We lacked sharpness but that will come with games.”
