Security firms and gardaí to discuss risk to cash-transit vans

Representatives from Ireland’s main security firms are expected to meet senior gardaí in the coming days to review procedures surrounding the transportation of cash.

The meeting follows yesterday’s €2m raid on a security van in Dublin. The van driver’s hostage had been taken captive ahead of the robbery.

A spate of similar hold-ups last year appeared to have ended when the Gardaí mounted a major operation to frustrate the gangs believed to be responsible.

However, there have already been 15 robberies or attempted robberies so far this year and in January, a security company employee was shot in the leg during a hold-up in Co Kildare.
