NTPF continuing to reduce hospital waiting list times

Waiting times for public surgical procedures in Ireland have fallen to less than six months in some cases, according to the National Treatment Purchase Fund.

The fund was established three years ago to purchase operations in private hospitals for adults who have been waiting in the public system for longer than 12 months and for children who had been waiting for at least six months.

However, it has already exceeded these targets and said today that it was currently purchasing treatments for patients who had been waiting for less than six months.

The NTPF said in February alone, it secured treatment for 648 patients who had been waiting between three and six months and another 561 who had been waiting up to a year.
