Pubs fined for failing to display prices
Two Dublin pubs were fined in Dublin District Court today for breaches of the Retail Price (Beverages in Licensed Premises) Display Order, 1999.
Albinus Limited, owners of The Shakespeare pub in Parnell Street and Leonard Kinsella, trading as McGruders, Thomas Street were fined in Dublin District Court today.
The Shakespeare was convicted in respect of three counts relating to failure to display a comprehensive price list.
The offences occurred in September and October 2004. The owners were fined the maximum of €126 in respect of each count - €378 in total and costs of €250.
McGruders pleaded guilty to two counts relating to the failure to display price lists on October 22, 2004 and on January 7, 2005. The owners were fined €60 and €100 respectively - €160 in total and costs of €250.
Welcoming today's decision, the Director of Consumer Affairs Carmel Foley said: "Customers have the legal right to know in advance the prices they will have to pay for drink in pubs. They also have the right to compare the prices in different premises."
