Classy Rebels continue unbeaten run

12/03/2005 - 22:19:48
All-Ireland champions Cork showed the gulf in class between themselves and tonight's visitors to Pairc Ui Rinn, as Joe Deane netted in their 1-19 to 1-09 Allianz NHL Division 1A defeat of the Saffrons.

Early points from Garvin McCarthy, Neil Ronan and Deane pushed John Allen's side 0-03 to 0-01 in front.

The Rebels - minus late cry-off Sean Og O hAilpin - maintained that two-point gap up to the interval as McCarthy and Deane were on target again.

Johnny McIntosh (0-03) - who hit a superb sideline cut - and late scores from Karl Stewart and Brendan Quinn kept Antrim - wayward with eight shots - in the hunt.

Deane - at the second attempt - drilled an immediate goal past Damien Quinn on the restart as Cork took a stranglehold on the game.

A Deane free followed, Brian Corcoran - making his first start of 2005 - also pointed, and Niall McCarthy, Deane Ronan McGregor and Peter Kelly were on target for a 1-17 to 0-06 buffer.

Michael McCambridge and McIntosh - who grabbed a late 1-01 - rallied Dinny Cahill's men into life but Cork were already assured of their third straight win.
