Employer confidence in future employment prospects improving
Employment prospects look stable for the next few months according to the latest study.
The FAS/ ESRI employment and vacancies report shows employers in the private sector have a more favourable outlook, especially in the services and industry sectors.
The report is based on a survey of the views of employers on short-term prospects for employment and for filling vacancies.
The percentage of Irish private sector companies reporting vacancies has reached its lowest level since July 2003, with only 6% of firms reporting vacancies at the end of the fourth quarter of last year.
The percentage of construction firms with openings increased but the numbers in the industrial and retail sectors fell.
Four out of five companies with vacancies in December said they were experiencing difficulties filling those jobs.
