Way clear for Rovers’ Tallaght move

11/03/2005 - 01:08:42
Shamrock Rovers are a step closer to moving into their new home in Tallaght.

The club’s board have decided to withdraw from a judicial review of South Dublin County Council’s (SDCC) decision to refuse an extension of planning permission last year and support the Council’s plan to develop the ground as a publicly-owned facility.

SDCC and the Government can now press ahead with their plans to secure the lease of the site from current leaseholders Mulden International, before restarting build work on the 6,000 capacity stadium.

Work on the stadium on Tallaght has been at a standstill for four years as Rovers suffered financial difficulties while an extension of planning permission was refused in December by SDCC.

The Rovers’ board had initially decided to pursue a judicial review of the Council’s decision.

Following talks with members of the Council and Government however, during which the club got assurances that both SDCC and the Government were committed to completing the stadium, they withdrew from the review.
