Michelin vow to keep up pressure in tyre war

11/03/2005 - 10:03:39
Michelin boss Pierre Dupasquier has warned tyre rivals Bridgestone his company will not let up after Giancarlo Fisichella’s dominant victory in Australia.

Michelin have yet to win a world championship in their latest stint in Formula One but Fisichella’s fine drive gave them the perfect start in 2005.

Dupasquier is keen to build on the Renault driver’s success and is promising more to come in Michelin’s battle with Ferrari suppliers Bridgestone

“We finished 2004 with a flourish – and it is very satisfying to begin the new season in similar fashion,” he said, referring to Juan Pablo Montoya’s win for Williams in Brazil last year.

“We came to Australia envisaging all kinds of situations that might arise because of the latest regulations, but everything has run smoothly. We had no tyre wear problems at all.

“Giancarlo’s result vindicates the hard work we have done during the winter and gives us an excellent platform on which to build for the rest of the season.

“We won’t rest on our laurels, though, because we know that there’s plenty of hard work to do in the months ahead.”
