Taoiseach praises smoking ban on Daffodil Day

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has used Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society to hail the success of the smoking ban.

"It is clear the ban on smoking in the workplace is having a positive effect, not only on the health of the nation, but also on the functioning of our health services," Mr Ahern said.

"On this Daffodil Day, as we approach the first anniversary of the ban on March 29, we can share a sense of national pride in a measure that will have long-term public health implications in terms of a reduction in the incidence of cancer in our society."
