Last-minute decision on Beau target
Ground conditions will determine which race Rathgar Beau goes for at Cheltenham next week.
If the going is soft, the nine-year-old will take on Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop and company in the two-mile Queen Mother Champion Chase on Tuesday.
But if it is fast he will tackle the Daily Telegraph Festival Trophy over an extra five furlongs the following day.
“We’ve not decided which race to run him in yet. We’re going to wait until the last possible moment,” said trainer Eamon Sheehy yesterday.
“The ground will be the deciding factor. If it’s on the fast side it will be the Daily Telegraph and if it’s on the slow side he’ll go for the Queen Mother.
“He’ll be confirmed for both races.”
The Kilkenny handler reported Rathgar Beau to be in fine shape.
“He’s in top form – couldn’t be better,” he added.
Rathgar Beau, a winner at Gowran Park last month, is 25-1 for the Queen Mother and only 5-1 for the Daily Telegraph.
