Arsenal left chasing FA Cup
Arsenal were left with only the FA Cup to save their season after enduring further Champions League frustration in being eliminated by Bayern Munich.
Arsene Wenger refused to give up hope of either lifting the FA Cup or even resurrecting his side’s title hopes.
However, after another salutary lesson in European football by Bayern, who lost the second leg 1-0 but deserved their 3-2 aggregate triumph, he knows their entire campaign could collapse in a week.
That is unless Arsenal quickly recover their lost momentum before Saturday’s tricky FA Cup sixth round tie at Bolton, where they have struggled in recent seasons.
But Wenger prickled at suggestions that defeat this weekend would represent a “drama” for his side and refused to even contemplate the summer rebuilding job which must surely now be planned.
“Of course, it is a big disappointment not to win the Champions League but even the Premiership is not yet completely over. Our values are not to give up when we still have a chance,” he declared.
