Record number of students entering third-level education
10/03/2005 - 08:15:49Record numbers of students are entering third-level courses in Ireland, according to a report published today by the Higher Education Authority.
The authority said more than 36,000 students entered higher education in 2003, an increase of 11% since 1998.
This is equated to an increase in the admission rate from 44% in 1998 to 54% in 2003.
The counties with the highest admission rates in 2003 were Leitrim, Longford, Clare, Kerry, Mayo, Galway, Rosommon, Sligo and Tipperary.
The lowest admission rates were found to be in Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Monaghan, Dublin and Donegal.
