Rail disruption expected due to unofficial strike in Cork

10/03/2005 - 07:44:43
Irish Rail has warned of possible disruption of services to and from Cork this morning due to unofficial industrial action by local members of the National Bus and Railworkers Union.

The NBRU said the action was arranged last night in protest at the disciplining of a number of its members in relation to “a minor dispute” that happened last Tuesday evening.

The union claimed local management in Cork reneged on an agreement with head office not to take any action pending the outcome of a meeting this morning.

However, Iarnród Éireann has insisted it is using agreed disciplinary procedures and is trying to address the issues arising from last Tuesday's dispute.

It said trains between Cork and Dublin, Cork and Tralee and commuter services in Mallow and Cobh could be affected by today's action.
