ISEQ slips below 6100

The ISEQ index slipped further back into the red today, falling 60.41 to close the day at 6,096.09.

Financial shares fared badly. Allied Irish Bank shares slipped 27c to €15.63. AIB announced this morning that it has appointed M&T Bank’s Eugene Sheehy to take over as chief executive on Michael Buckley’s retirement.

Bank of Ireland shares slipped 23c to €12.68. Anglo Irish Bank shares and Irish Life & Permanent shares were unchanged.

Building materials giant CRH fell 18c to €20.40 today, while Grafton shares slipped 26c to €9.44, despite Grafton yesterday revealing profits 29% higher at €131.9m in 2004.

Shares in FBD Holdings, climbed 10c further today. FBD announced pre-tax profits of €135m for 2004 yesterday.

Meanwhile pharmaceutical giant Elan climbed 14c to €5.79 today.

The most traded shares today were AIB, Bank of Ireland, Anglo Irish Bank, CRH and Ryanair.
