Institutional Redress Scheme may cost €828m
09/03/2005 - 19:00:36The final cost of the Institutional Redress Scheme has been estimated to reach up to €828m.
A minimum of €128m is expected to be contributed from the various religious congregations.
In a report today the Dáil's Public Account Committee recommended the Civil Service should improve its capacity to negotiate on significant issues. This followed a recent High Court decision which awarded the highest amount in damages to a victim of abuse.
One in Four, the group who represent victims of abuse said the deal reached between the State and religious congregations is a scandal.
