Rising energy costs 'putting Irish firms at disadvantage'

The employers' body IBEC has claimed that rising energy costs and concerns over the security of the electricity supply are putting Irish-based companies at a competitive disadvantage.

The organisation said a survey it conducted found that one in six firms were considering relocating out of Ireland because of the situation, while almost two-thirds had installed energy-saving technologies to counter high prices.

IBEC also said the survey found that Irish energy costs were around 8% higher than other countries and had increased at around three times the rate of inflation in the last three years.
