Ruud and Rooney up front for United
Alex Ferguson sent his Manchester United team out at the San Siro looking to inflict a seismic shock on Champions League foes AC Milan.
Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy bolstered a Red Devils attack also containing Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs as United tried to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit and end the Rossoneri’s 10-game unbeaten home record against English clubs in European competition.
Tim Howard has replaced Roy Carroll in goal since the opening encounter at Old Trafford when his error led to the only goal, but the American will not not want a repeat of the blunder he made in his last European outing against Lyon earlier this season.
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, mindful of the stunning defeat inflicted on his Juventus team by United in the famous 1999 semi-final, is taking nothing for granted.
But, with the inclusion of former Old Trafford favourite Jaap Stam the only change from the team which held their opponents at bay with something to spare a fortnight ago, Ancelotti was confident he would be the one celebrating a place in the last eight.
