Coulthard predicts bright future for Red Bull Racing
David Coulthard insists Red Bull Racing’s superb Formula One debut was no fluke and is predicting a bright future for the new team.
The Scotsman was in the running for a podium finish in Australia before settling for fourth, although he was helped by rain in qualifying which put him towards the front of the grid.
Coulthard is confident Red Bull, who emerged from the ashes of Jaguar earlier this year, have what it takes to compete at a respectable level in Formula One.
He said: “If you look at our race pace we were quicker than Williams and McLaren had some problems as well. We raced to get those points.
“I knew the car felt an improvement on the Jaguar. I think Cosworth have done a good job. Power-wise I don’t expect we are the best but we are certainly not embarrassing ourselves with horsepower. The car and engine are reliable.”
Coulthard was hired by Red Bull for his vast experience in Formula One and he has been impressed by what he has found, predicting a successful future for the team.
The 33-year-old believes their comparatively small size will work to their advantage: “It’s a small racing team that can react because we can get to the guy and make a decision, we don’t have to go a boardroom.
“We just have to come up with ideas to make it go quicker.”
