Travers Report to be published today
08/03/2005 - 07:44:37The Travers Report into how the Department of Health allowed nursing home fees to be levied on medical card holders is due to be published today.
The report, drawn up by former Forfás chief John Travers, will be published after being presented to the cabinet at its weekly meeting this morning.
The nursing home charges were being levied since 1976 when the Government ordered that they be stopped late last year following advice from the Attorney General.
A subsequent attempt to retrospectively legalise the fees was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court last month, leaving the State open to a massive compensation bill.
