Mayo end Cork unbeaten record

Mayo 0-14 Cork 0-11

2004 All-Ireland finalists Mayo triumphed in Ballina this afternoon as three points from play from skipper Ciaran McDonald inspired a victory against Cork.

Goalkeeper David Clarke was also key to their back-to-back wins as saved shots from Brendan Jer O'Sullivan, Kevin O'Sullivan and John Hayes in the second-half to help Mayo to a 0-14 to 0-11 victory.

John Maughan's men - with James Gill, McDonald and former Under-21 Aidan Kilcoyne in good form - were 0-08 to 0-04 up at the break. Kevin O'Sullivan contributing three of the Rebels' points.

The gap was down to two on 45 minutes when an early O'Sullivan effort was added to by two Conor McCarthy overs.

A hat-trick of scores from Conor Mortimer then followed for the home side, and that, together with McDonald's late salvo, was enough to condemn Cork to a first league loss.
