Jimenez holding off Els

06/03/2005 - 10:40:52
Miguel Angel Jimenez still led Ernie Els by one after five holes of the final round in the Dubai Desert Classic today – but the early action was anything but routine.

Both players were put off by a press cameraman at the start, Els hooking into the trees on the first and the Ryder Cup Spaniard into the sandy waste area at the second.

Each time it cost them a bogey and when Els holed a 10-foot birdie putt on the second they were level.

But the world number three then hooked again off the next tee and while he scrambled a par five, Jimenez’s two-putt birdie put him into the lead on his own again.

Welshman Stephen Dodd overtook Colin Montgomerie in third place with birdies at the third and fifth – at 14-under he was only two behind – while the Scot opened with six successive pars as the wind picked up.
