Six die in Thailand ferry tragedy

A ferry carrying dozens of people sank in bad weather off the coast of southern Thailand today, killing at least six people, police said.

Twenty-four people were rescued after the boat sank while sailing from the resort island of Phuket to Yao island in a neighbouring province, said Lt. Col. Thawee Kitkhuan.

It was unclear how many people were on the ferry, he said. No foreigners were believed to have been on board.
