Shelbourne set to close for 18-month refurbishment
The famous Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin is set to close this month for a major refurbishment lasting 18 months.
The Shelbourne last year celebrated 180 years in business.
Plans for the refurbishment, which will proceed shortly, have been finalised and it is anticipated that contracts for the work will be awarded in the near future.
The work will transform the hotel, which is managed by hotel group Marriott, confirming its 5-Star classification.
It is anticapted the refurbishment work will last 18 months.
The management of The Shelbourne have today informed employees and union representatives that the owners preferred option, during the restoration programme, is to close the hotel.
A final decision on closure will be taken following consultation with employee and union representatives, the Hotel management said in a statement today.
