04/03/2005 - 07:42:24
Record numbers of young people in Ireland have reportedly been treated for mumps so far this year.

Reports this morning said the outbreak was particularly bad in the North, where almost 1,600 cases of the virus have been reported so far in 2005.

Most of those affected by this year's outbreak are students in the 18-24 age group, with most reporting inflammation of the salivary glands as the main symptom.
