RTÉ may be forced to show how it spends licence fee
03/03/2005 - 07:26:21The European Commission has reportedly recommended that RTÉ provide details of how it spends the €70m it receives annually in licence fees.
Reports this morning said the recommendation followed the first phase of an EC study into public service broadcasting across the European Union.
The EC has reportedly recommended the move to promote transparency and to ensure that the licence fee "is not being spent on activities that are in direct competition" with rivals like TV3.
