Govt urged to offer better pension incentives
03/03/2005 - 17:08:21The Government has been told more needs to be done to encourage employees to take up pensions.
The opposition has said the level of participation amongst the workforce in voluntary schemes is a major cause of concern.
In the Dáil, Fine Gael’s Richard Bruton has told the Finance Minister there are better incentives for the rich to take out a pension.
“Predominately the working man doesn’t have any pension cover and truly he accepts that there is a case for enhancing the incentives to all earners to get a pension.”
“At the moment there is three times the incentive for people on high income to contribute to pension than people on low income and there is no justice on that.”
The Pensions Board has reported 12,000 hits a month on its website.
