Mono Consultants wins £10m windfarm project

03/03/2005 - 15:18:11
Belfast-based infrastructure service provider Mono Consultants has won approval for Airtricity Developments’ £10m (€14.5m) windfarm development.

The windfarm will be developed in the south-eastern slopes of the Bessy Bell Mountain between Strabane and Omagh.

The development will consist of nine 1.3MW turbines which, when fully operational, will produce 11.7MW of electricity – enough to meet the electricity needs of almost 9,000 homes.

The project will save the release of 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year - the equivalent to taking over 7,000 cars off the road.

Having previously won approval for Airtricity Developments’ 19.5MW 13 wind turbine windfarm at Tappaghan Mountain in Co Fermanagh, Mono is currently awaiting a decision on another application submitted on behalf of Airtricity for a 9MW six wind turbine windfarm in Co Tyrone.
