Frustrated teen fined for internet death threats

02/03/2005 - 15:35:42
A Norwegian teenager, angry and frustrated by his internet connection ended up in court for making death threats against the supplier’s support staff.

The 19-year-old repeatedly contacted his internet supplier, the state-controlled telecommunications group Telenor, by e-mail about his troublesome connection.

With no answers forthcoming, the teenager from Mandal boiled over and threatened the lives of employees at Telenor’s headquarters near Oslo.

“I am personally coming to Fornebu to kill you one by one if you don’t get a move on and fix this damned problem,” he wrote in an e-mail.

Telenor reported the threat to the police who charged him.

The man, whose name was not released, pleaded guilty to making death threats and was given a suspended 21 day jail sentence plus a €580 fine.

“Fortunately, it seldom gets as rough as this,” Telenor spokesman Atle Lessum said about threats from customers.
