Michelle hopes viewers see less of her in new show

Former Pop Idol Michelle McManus is losing weight under the gaze of viewers in a new TV show.

She is opening up her kitchen cupboards to scrutiny in Celebrity You Are What You Eat.

After winning the talent show in 2003, the Pop Idol 2 star said she was happy about her weight. But she has signed up for the Channel 4 show, under the wing of nutritionist Gillian McKeith.

The singer, from Glasgow, scored a Number 1 with her debut single All This Time after winning Pop Idol, but her chart success has been short-lived.

Before she was signed up for the Channel 4 show, McKeith said she wanted to sort out the Scottish singer’s weight.

She said: “She kept saying she was fine with her weight, but when you have all that extra weight you don’t have the same kind of energy – and to try and be on top of the career that she wants to have you need to have the energy levels.”

Other forthcoming shows on Channel 4, announced at its Spring launch today, included Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall exploring the dynamics of sexual attraction in Sexual Intelligence, Robert Kilroy-Silk living with gypsies in Kilroy and the Gypsies, and Life Before Birth, a two-hour film which uses the latest 4D scanning technology to look at how a baby develops from a single cell.
