Chris' jokes hit rock bottom
Comedian Chris Rock, hosting today’s ceremony, got a standing ovation before even beginning, but responded: “Sit your ass down”.
He joked: “Welcome to the 77th and last Academy Awards.”
He unleashed a few cheeky put-downs to the Hollywood royalty in the Kodak Theatre – as well as himself.
“The only acting is when people act like they’re not mad they lost,” he said. “I remember one year when Halle Berry won the Oscars, Nicole Kidman was smiling so wide she should have won an Oscar for her great performance.”
He said studios should be more selective about how they chose to star in their movies.
“Why don’t some movies work? Studios make them too fast. There are only four real stars. The rest are just popular people,” he said.
“Tobey Maguire is just a boy in tights. If you can’t get a star, wait, you want Tom Cruise and all you get is Jude Law, wait, it’s not the same thing.
“Who is Jude Law? Why is he in every movie I have seen in the last four years? Even if he’s not acting in, if you look at the credits he makes the cupcakes or something….”
