Tipp overcome Limerick in Gaelic Grounds goalfest
Limerick 3-11 Tipperary 4-14
Ken Hogan's Tipperary continue to set the pace at the top of the Allianz NHL Division 1B, after their four-goal demolition of Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds today.
The Premier men were 3-07 to 0-07 in front at the break, as they eased out to the second successive league win.
Michael Webster began the goal-scoring, finishing a Donal Shelley through ball to the Shannonsiders' net on 10 minutes.
Darragh Egan and Francis Devanney also goaled on 23 and 25 minutes, as Limerick lived off four frees - and four points in all, from Alan O'Connor as the home side struggled to stay in touch.
Just three minutes after the restart, the elusive Evan Sweeney plundered a fourth Tipp goal as his shot rained in off the Limerick crossbar.
Tipp goalkeeping legend Brendan Cummins was forced to pull off a brilliant save from Patsy Cahill before being forced to the sideline with an ankle injury.
Without him, Paul O'Grady reduced the deficit for the home side on 54 minutes with a first goal for 4-10 to 1-08.
Two more followed for Pat-Joe Whelehan's men with Andrew Shaughnessy and Donie Ryan, but with three players sin-binned, Limerick were flattered by the final score.
