O'Gara edges Ireland ahead at half-time

Fly-half Ronan O’Gara marked his 50th cap by kicking two penalties and two drop-goals to edge RBS 6 Nations Championship favourites Ireland into a 12-10 lead against England at Lansdowne Road.

The visitors had edged 10-9 ahead when Charlie Hodgson, the object of criticism after his disappointing kicking performance against France, kicked a 50m penalty goal.

It was a see-saw game with the lead trading hands but O’Gara’s second drop goal put Ireland back in front eight minutes before half-time and they held on despite fierce England pressure.
