Kieron Dyer was Newcastle’s hero as Graeme Souness’ side completed a fourth victory inside 10 days against Bolton.
The England midfielder smashed home the winner after 68 minutes to hand his side three vital Barclays Premiership points against Sam Allardyce’s surprise European contenders.
Lee Bowyer had put the hosts ahead 10 minutes before the break, but Stelios Giannakopoulos levelled within six minutes before Newcastle took the game by the scruff of the neck.
