Hanafin announces details of €46m school funding package
24/02/2005 - 14:02:47Minister for Education Mary Hanafin has announced details of a €46m funding package for refurbishment and extension projects at 192 Irish schools.
Ms Hanafin said €28m of the funding was being provided to 98 primary schools under the Small and Rural Schools Initiative.
This is double the amount of money allocated under the scheme last year.
A further €14m is being provided to 74 schools to help them develop additional permanent classroom space, while 20 schools are to get pre-fabricated classrooms that are no longer needed by other schools.
Ms Hanafin said she was also planning to approve plans by up to 120 other schools to rent temporary premises pending the delivery of permanent facilities.
