Anti-bin tax activists to hold Dublin protest on Saturday
24/02/2005 - 12:00:04Campaigners against the imposition of waste charges are due to hold a demonstration in Dublin to protest at the introduction of nationwide pay-by-use charges on January 1.
The charges, which are based on the weight or volume of the rubbish left out by each household, have been introduced ostensibly to encourage recycling.
However, the Anti-Bin Tax Campaign has claimed that they are totally unjustified given the lack of proper recycling services, particularly in large housing estates.
They also believe that the charges are being introduced to make waste collection services profitable so they can be sold off to private companies.
