FG blames Govt for spiralling house prices

Fine Gael has attacked the Government's failure to reign in spiralling house prices.

Irish house prices are currently rising at more than four times the rate of inflation, with the average price of a house now standing at around €250,000, rising to almost €325,000 in Dublin.

Fine Gael spokesperson Fergus O'Dowd said that, by standing by and ignoring such increases, the Government was creating a situation where many people cannot afford homes.

"This is the first generation in Ireland since the foundation of the State that young people can no longer look forward to owning their own home," he said.
