13 die in car bomb attack near mosque
11/02/2005 - 12:42:37A car bomb exploded outside a Shiite mosque north-east of Baghdad today, killing 13 people and injuring more than 40, police said.
The explosion in Balad Ruz, 45 miles from the capital, took place as Friday prayers at the mosque ended, a witness said.
Iraqi National Guard troops were among the dead and wounded.
Police Colonel Tahseen Mohammed said the locals had reported that a pick-up truck loaded with vegetables and parked in front of the mosque looked suspicious.
When the Iraqi troops approached the truck, it exploded, he added.
