Rabbitte seeks probe into cost of e-vote machine storage
11/02/2005 - 08:56:57Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte has called on the Departments of Finance and the Environment to investigate the cost of storing electronic voting machines.
Figures circulated to the Oireachtas public accounts committee have reportedly shown that it costs more than €650,000 a year to store the machines, which were due to be introduced last year before being abandoned due to the security concerns.
The figures also reported the cost of storing the machines was four times higher in Waterford than anywhere else in the country.
Asked about the matter this morning, Mr Rabbitte said an investigation was needed to find out the reason for the discrepancy.
