Durkan and McGuinness clash on BBC discussion show
11/02/2005 - 07:34:46The host of the BBC discussion programme Question Time came close to taking the show off air last night after a row erupted between SDLP leader Mark Durkan and Sinn Féin MP Martin McGuinness.
The row began when Mr McGuinness accused Mr Durkan of standing idly by while the Independent Monitoring Commission was established outside the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.
The SDLP leader accused the Sinn Féin MP of telling lies, but was continually interrupted by Mr McGuinness when he tried to state his party's position on the IMC.
The host of the programme, David Dimbleby, repeatedly told both men to be quiet and threatened to stop the programme if they did not allow others to speak.
The debate eventually proceeded.
