Airport workers overcome by Chinese package
10/02/2005 - 14:48:14More than 25 people, mostly cargo workers, were admitted to hospital in the Turkish capital today suffering from headaches and nausea after inhaling gas coming from a package at Ankara airport.
They were all affected after opening a suspicious package from China addressed to the Chinese embassy.
Hospital doctor Salih Turkoglu, said 27 people were in stable condition.
Officials sealed the cargo section of the airport and decontaminated the area.
“We don’t know the nature of the gas,” said Recep Guvelioglu, a spokesman for Turkish Airlines, which carried the package from Istanbul to Ankara.
Guvelioglu said the package was marked as containing books and CDs.
