Warning on overpaid tax
10/02/2005 - 15:59:49Irish people could have overpaid as much as €375m euro in taxes during 2004, it was claimed today.
Fine Gael has launched a national ’Give It Back’ information campaign – with 500,000 leaflets – to ask PAYE workers to examine their accounts.
Party finance spokesman Richard Bruton said that thousands of people could have overpaid tax in four main areas of health, bin charges, private rents and home carers.
He said: “Ordinary taxpayers must have confidence that the Revenue Commissioners will repay overpaid tax wherever it has evidence that this has happened.”
Fine Gael’s enterprise spokesman Phil Hogan uncovered the issue through parliamentary questions to the Government before Christmas.
