Kenny: Report is searing indictment of SF behaviour

10/02/2005 - 13:55:17
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has described the Independent Monitoring Commission's report into the Belfast bank heist as a searing indictment of the behaviour of Sinn Féin and the IRA.

Mr Kenny said the report highlighted how senior Sinn Féin members were sanctioning IRA robberies while also negotiating with the Irish and British governments.

He also said the Criminal Assets Bureau should pursue the proceeds of IRA criminality.

Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte, meanwhile, said the report had made it blatantly clear that the republican movement must now choose either democracy or criminality.

He added that the IMC was made up of respected public figures who had no political axe to grind and Sinn Féin's denunciation of its members would cut no ice with the public.
