ISEQ up 23 as Elan plummets
The ISEQ index of Irish shares closed up 23.46 points at 6661.89 today.
Elan was the most dramatic mover of the day, falling 95c (4.5%) to €20.20.
Paddy Power was the day’s highest riser, gaining 45c (3.7%) to €12.70. The bookmaker announced today that it had signed a new online poker deal with Tribeca Tables.
Tullow Oil announced today that it had approved a total exploration budget of €58m for 2005. The exploration company was down 7c (2.8%) at €2.42 at the end of the day.
It was a good day for the financials, as Anglo Irish Bank showed an increase of 38c (2%) to €19.68. Bank of Ireland was 19c (1.5%) in the black at €12.70 on the day that it announced rate reductions on home-loan mortgages.
Irish Life & Permanent closed up 15c (1.1%) at €14.25. AIB was up 8c at €15.75 at close of play, and was the day’s busiest share. Today, the banking group announced that its internal auditor was switching company and it had appointed Ernst & Young man Tony Schatzel to the post.
FBD closed down 20c at €20.25.
Greencore closed up 4c (1.2%) at €3.36 as farmers marched on the Dáil to protest its planned factory closures.
CRH finished the day up 19c at €21.44.
