Inflation falls to 2.3% due to sales and lower fuel prices
10/02/2005 - 12:05:23Ireland's inflation rate fell to 2.3% in the first month of this year, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.
The CSO said average prices fell by 0.8% during the month, mainly due to the winter sales, lower air fares and decreases in the price of petrol and diesel.
This brought the annualised inflation rate down from 2.6% in December to 2.3% in January.
The CSO said the cost of services had increased by 4.1% in the year to January, while the inflation rate for goods was 0.3%.
It said the most notable price changes over the 12-month period were a 9.2% increase in the cost of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, a 6.2% increase in health charges and a 5.6% increase in education costs.
