Green Party to hold series of seminars on EU constitution

09/02/2005 - 12:24:35
The Green Party has announced plans to hold a series of seminars around the country to inform the public about the European Constitution.

A recent survey found that almost half the Irish population had never even heard of the constitution, which is designed to replace all existing EU treaties.

The Greens said today that they would be holding seminars on the document in Cork next Saturday, Galway on March 11 and Dublin on April 16.

The meetings will feature speakers from both sides of the debate on the constitution.

The Green Party has traditionally opposed such treaties, but supporters of the EU have been putting pressure on the party to adopt a more pro-European stance in line with most other green parties on the continent.
